What is the recommended distance between newel posts for a balcony?
There is nothing hard and fast on this. It depends, of course, on the size of the top and bottom rails. Personally, I try to limit the distance to around 6' between newel posts and have gone as far as 8' on a curve. Over 8', put in a middle newel post for sure.
I'm talking here about a 2 1/2" x 2 1/4" nominal oak or hemlock top rail.
