If you have already purchased Plans and Instructions from DaveOsborne.com then you can redownload those same Plans and Instructions at any time. If you have never downloaded a file on the Internet, don't be concerned, it's not difficult. Just follow the instructions below.
The Plans and Instructions you have already purchased are displayed in the listing called "Woodworking Plans from DaveOsborne.com" along with all the other products available from our site. The big difference, however, is "(Redownload if needed)" is displayed instead of the phrase "Add to cart". It is only possible to redownload those Plans and Instructions you have already purchased. Only those have the "(Redownload if needed)" link instead of the "Add to cart" link.
It is possible that your display does not show the Plans and Instructions that you have already purchased. This is probably because a little file (called a "cookie") was not saved on your computer or was accidentally erased from your computer. Simply enter in your email address (the same one you entered when purchasing your Plans) and click on the button labelled "Enter e-mail". This creates the cookie again and saves it on your computer. (Your browser must be set to accept cookies, of course.)
If the email address is the same one you entered when you purchased your Plans then your listing of products from DaveOsborne.com will now show "(Redownload if needed)" instead of "Add to cart" for each of the Plans you have purchased from DaveOsborne.com.
There are three ways for you to access the Plans you purchased, but you MUST follow the directions above if you do not see "(Redownload if needed)" instead of "Add to cart" for each of the Plans you have purchased from DaveOsborne.com. If you do not see "(Redownload if needed)" to the right of the Plans you purchased then you CANNOT access your Plans. You MUST follow the directions above to see that.
A. One way to access your Plans is to click on the NAME OF THE PLANS you purchased. This will take to you to those Plans directly on our site where you can view the entire Plans and print them off on your computer.
B. Another way to access your Plans is to have them emailed to you. You do this by clicking on "(Redownload if needed)". This takes you to the page where you can select them to be emailed to you. Your Plans will come in an email as an attachment. You save the Plans file on your computer, then you go to them and open them up (the same procedure that is described in the third way of accessing your Plans below in steps C.6 and C.7).
C. The third way to access your Plans is by downloading them to your computer and then viewing them on your computer. Downloading a file means that your browser (usually Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) accepts the file over the Internet and lets you store the file on your own computer.
C.2 To start the download process, you need to click on "(Redownload if needed)" name of the product under "You Have Bought The Following Plans". You are then asked if you want to open the file or save it on your computer. Make sure the "Save" choice is selected (usually is). Then click on the OK button.
C.3 Now you'll need to find a good spot on your computer to save the file so you can easily find it again. It's a good idea to make a directory (folder) on your computer for your downloads. That way you'll always know where to find them. Then make a separate folder for each download so it doesn't get mixed up with other files. To make a new folder just click on the button near the top of the Save window. Give the new folder a name and press Enter on your keyboard. Then click on the Open button near the bottom of the Save window. Finally, click on the Save button and the download starts.
C.4 The file is now coming through your Internet connection to your computer and is being saved on your computer. This might take a minute.
C.5 When the downloading is complete the little download window will close automatically or will say that the file is finished downloading.
C.6 After the file has finished downloading you open the folder where you saved the file to. The file is in ZIP format, which just means it's been compressed so it takes less time to travel over the Internet. The first thing you need to do is to open up the file so you can read it. This is called unzipping it. You'll need a special program (application) to do this but most computers have it. Just right-click on the zip file (the one you just downloaded). In the menu of choices that pops up will be a selection like "Extract here" or "Extract from archive" or something like that. Click on that and sit back while the file unzips. This takes about 5 to 10 seconds. If you don't have a ZIP program you can get a very good free one called 7-ZIP by clicking here.
C.7 After you unzip the file you'll see that there are now either a bunch of files in the folder or preferably another folder (sub-folder) named for the project plans you downloaded. The instructions have been sent to you in the form of a web page so your browser can read it. Just double-click on the file called Instructions and the instructions will display automatically in your browser.
After your files are displayed, click on the Print button at the top of the instructions near the title. This puts the diagrams and the instructions into separate windows. To print them out, take your cursor up to the top of each window to the File menu and select Print or Print Preview. When one window is printed, just close it and you'll get the next window to print. Do the same thing using the File menu and Print each window before closing it.
You can help us by letting us know if the plans you purchased were easy to follow or not and how satisfied you were with them. We've included with the files a simple form you can fill out for your convenience. You can give as much or as little information as you like. Your feedback is very valuable to us so we will know what improvements to make.
